Septcygne

Overview

The capital city of Septcygne is the central seat of the monarchy, but is unlike many other elven cities. Many of their dwellings are built under and in large tree communities. The Belcadiz elves originally built the core of the city out of graceful towers and light airy stone bridges and plazas both on the ground and in the air, in direct contrast with many elvish traditions. Most of the newer buildings and dwellings show a more natural and organic design, built out of natural materials in balance with the surrounding forests, as if the inhabitants were advocating a change to a more mainstream elven standard.

In the center of this forest city is a single living tree of immense girth that rises one hundred feet up to the forest canopy. Known as the Ligno Vitae or “Tower of Life,” this sparkling tower of living wood and marble demonstrates the harmony of Alfar with nature. The original elven folk built their city of towers and buildings around the tree, but more recently have patiently reshaped nature and their dwellings with divine and arcane magic into forms both beautiful and practical. The glory of the city is the Ligno Vitae. Giant eagles can be seen perched on its upper branches while inside the floors of this massive tower the Queen and her councilors preside over the Aelvinwode Kingdom.

The wealth and extravagance of the treetop elven homes increases as one moves from the lowly cottages of the river banks marking the cities outer perimeter to the awe-inspiring Ligno Vitae at the city center.

Septcygne is known for its fine artisans. Major exports from the capital include; fish, honey, mead, magic items and fine clothing. Surrounded by three rivers, fishing is a constant activity in the forest kingdom. Bee keeping is a popular hobby. The honey is fermented into mead that is famous and sought after in the region. Iron, copper, silver, gold and mithril ore are imported up the Venifica River from the southern Munire Titan Mountains. These raw materials were traditionally crafted by the elven artisans into works of art, but know are more often formed into weapons and magic. Spider silk is shipped in from the northern town of Travail and woven into garments that can last long after human garments have turned to dust.
